The clients where just amazing to work with on this equally amazing project. I grew up down the road from the clients husband so needless to say I wanted to produce a lovely home for their family. They bought the site with a large two storey Georgian style dwelling approved on it however it was totally in appropriate for this very sloped site and it would have required a 3.5m high retaining wall behind it and sloped down either side. Presenting my proposed sketch proposal was an anxious meeting but to me this was the best solution for the site. Thankfully they loved it!
Due to the sloped site we had to have a retaining wall. By moving this into the heart of the dwelling it now formed the back wall of the semi basement wall for the lower ground floor level. I was able to bring the main driveway up to the upper level so that allowed me to have the entire living area and master bedroom on the upper ground level with elevated views of the surrounding countryside.
I personally love this dwelling as it has a very open plan layout but with loads of surprise spaces, tons of natural light and it is feature rich. The dwelling has triple glazed windows, is fully air tight with a heat recovery system and is heated by a ground source heat pump. The dwelling construction was inspected by NHBC however the clients asked me to oversee the on-site finishing touches and do bespoke design for the stairs and various other items and they really did put their trust in my advice. The clients wife was super organised which was fantastic and helped this project run smoothly and it came in on budget. This is truly a one off dwelling and this house makes an ordinary site something special.
